Theater lovers watched the play Gardish Mein Taare in rapt attention, as it premiered at an auditorium in Mumbai. A play based on the dynamics of theman-woman relationship after marriage, specially when both individuals are ambitious about their career, was quite effective. Inspired from the conflicts of late actor and director Guru Dutt and Geeta Dutt faced in their marriage, the lead actors Arif Zakaria and Sonali Kulkarni were very effective in their performances.
The lyrics, the music and the way the whole era of the 50s and 60s films was brought on the screen helped the audiences reminisce about those days of the Hindi film industry. Saif Hyder Hasan, director of the play, subtly brings out the turmoil and inner conflicts that a husband and wife go through in a marriage, especially when the husband gets too involved and ambitious about his work.
There were many interesting scenes in the play, one of them being with Arif Zakaria who plays Dev Dutt. Dev Dutt is talking to his muse Afsana, an actress who only acts in his films. Afsana asks him for permission to work in other filmmaker's films and also tells him that if a idol maker falls in love with his idol, the idol is not at fault. The second interesting scene was when Sonali Kulkarni who plays Bhavna, in her sadness hopes for love and attention from her husband. Good sets, dialogues and above all good performances had the play winning good reviews from the audience.
